Welcome To Camp

Here in The Beacon, our shoes are shined, our WiFi is kickin’, our vibe is just bohemian enough, but our couches are lonely. The doors open today at 1pm for another year of being your oasis from the maddening crowd, and a place to connect with peers both new and old. It’s a little like headed to summer camp after a long school year. We are excited to once again represent the thriving non profit and socially conscious community at sxsw, and to that end, you will notice a few changes when you visit us this year.

1. The posters on the walls are provided by various non profit organizations who wanted to help us reflect the face and mission of our sector. Causes like these and the people who work for them, are why the Beacon exists.

2. We have deepened our commitment to the non-profits we feature during the week, hoping to raise awareness, funds, and support among the sxsw community. Come talk to them each day and learn about what they do. Give your breakfast and/or lunch money to support them and get yummies from one of our generous sponsors as thanks. Drop a few bucks in the fishbowl when you grab that free beer in the afternoon, or make a greater commitment at one of the donation stations to help these important organizations continue to do what they do.

3. Daily events have been added to the schedule. Breakfast with panelists from “Will Kiva Kill Your Non Profit”. Live streaming social media rockstar interviews. Soapbox lunches for a cause to raise awareness for We Can end This. Afternoon acoustic shows with local Austin talent. A virtual benefit show beamed in from Second Life. Oh and beer. Lots of beer.

4. We are practicing what we preach to our clients by really beefing up our social media chops. Follow @thebeaconsxsw (and use hashtag #thebeaconsxsw) for constant updates and goodies. Tag your photos with “thebeaconsxsw” to flow into our flickr feed. Keep checking this blog (or pulldown the RSS) to get the latest updates throughout the day on how to get your good on at sxsw. And we are even going to try some video blogging – wish us luck on that!

But really, this is all you need to know. We’re SO ready – come on in!

Huge props to our sponsors: Blackbaud, Convio, Rad Campaign, Charity Dynamics and The Port.
