Technical Lead

Beaconfire Consulting is seeking experienced developers for a Tech Lead role.

About the Position

The Technical Lead will provide technical expertise and leadership in the evaluation and recommendation of technologies for use by mid and large sized nonprofits. In a team-based environment, the Tech Lead will work closely with Beaconfire consultants to identify and craft technical solutions that help our nonprofit clients meet their business goals. This role requires that a candidate provide both objective technical analysis of existing systems and tools, as well as lead the implementation and integration of possible solutions. The successful candidate will also have the ability to provide hands-on programming as part of the project team.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Architect Internet based solutions that may include any and all of: off-the-shelf software products, ASPs, custom components, internal systems, data exchange tools and application integration.
  • Work closely with the clients and Beaconfire staff to develop solution recommendations that are driven by the client’s business objectives.

    Responsibilities include:
  • facilitation of workshops
  • research and identification of solution option
  • communication with vendors
  • articulation of risks, benefits, costs, and recommendation
  • defining system architectures and developing technical requirements
  • scope and monitor level of implementation effort
  • Lead technologists on the project team in the development, implementation and integration of systems.
  • Maintain in-depth technical expertise in all areas of Web-related non-profit products and general Web-related solutions for content management, contact management, email marketing, eCommerce, and transaction processing – including industry trends and competitive offerings. Must apply this knowledge to the business needs of customers.
  • Participate in sales efforts (proposals) by providing subject matter expertise and scoping level of effort.

Required Skills:

Successful candidates must have significant experience and skills in the following:

  • Ability to be a lead developer in at least 3 of the following languages:
    ColdFusion, PHP, ASP.NET, PERL, Java , or Python,.
  • Experience with OO development techniques and tools.
  • Experienced with full lifecycle software development methodologies and best practices in software development.
  • Experience with Oracle 9i+ or SQL Server 2000 or later or MySQL.
  • Experience developing for Windows, Linux, or Sun Solaris server environments.
  • Interact with clients and develop technical requirements and detailed design documentation.
  • Facilitate technical workshops used to surface and assess technical requirements.
  • Able to provide technical analysis, evaluations and preparation of technical recommendations to senior management.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation (e.g. configuration documents, system architectures and database schemas).

The successful candidate should:

  • be a strong and effective communicator; have excellent interpersonal and writing skills.
  • be able to multi task in the support of multiple projects and clients.
  • have 2+ years functioning in the role of Lead developer—managing diverse project teams of other designers and developers.
  • have 3 years in consulting and customer facing technology role.
  • have experience with Content Management, Contact Management, Email Marketing, e-commerce, and Transaction-Processing systems/products.
